The Audit in Paradise

How fortunate was I! An audit in…Hawaii! What more is there to say? In the planning stages, my husband and I had talked of going as a family. However, the audit timing didn’t work well with his work schedule. So instead, my mom came with me. While I worked during the day she played near the hotel…on Waikiki Beach! The food in Hawaii is very expensive…I only ate breakfast and dinner each day to save money. Each night for dinner we picked a nice place to eat…since it is also a vacation destination. The second night we were there we ate at Roy’s, just a short walk away from the hotel…the third and final night we walked down the beach and ate at Duke’s! While the food was delicious, the audit location was the best part!

After my audit finished the last day, my mom and I went to Pearl Harbor before we boarded our red-eye flights home. Pearl Harbor was…amazing. We visited the main location, which included a museum, submarine and a boat ride to the USS Arizona, and then a bus took us to the Airfield. At the museum site, we toured the USS Bowfin, a submarine. The bunks where the seamen sleep are in the same quarters as the missiles!! For the ride to the USS Arizona and the platform, the images you see on TV and the internet do not do it justice. The wall at the back has etched in it the name of every life lost on board. The magnitude of the lives lost from just that one ship is humbling. The museum grounds listed every life lost at Pearl Harbor by vessel.

At the airfield, we toured the Air Museum and the hangars. The attack on Pearl Harbor was not only on the ships docked in the harbor but at the airfield as well. Visible in the windows were the bullet holes from the machine guns used by the Japanese during their attack. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii…for work! #getpaidtotravel #audittraveladventures
